Electric Lunchbox by VASG | Heating Food on the Go?

Growing up in the 80s I owned a lot of different lunchboxes (Pac-Man, Rambo, Star Wars) but I never could have imagined a lunchbox with a built-in battery and heater that would heat my food up for me. If the idea of a cordless lunchbox that can heat up soup or leftovers sounds intriguing, read on!

JUST THE FACTS

This Electric Lunchbox from VASG heats up to 360 degrees and is cordless, thanks to a built-in 12,000mAh battery. The lunchbox comes inside an insulated bag with handles and a detachable shoulder strap for transporting it. Plastic claps hold on the lid which covers the metal tray in which you place your food. Buttons on the face of the lunbhbox allow you to set cook times between 10 and 60 minutes, and once your food is ready the lunchbox will keep your food warm until it’s time to eat.

FULL REVIEW

When I first read about this electric lunchbox I thought the idea sounded ridiculous, but it didn’t take long for me to imagine all the possibilities it would unlock. Lunch in my car! Lunch in the park! Lunch on the road! Lunch at my desk instead of in the break room! Having owned the lunchbox for a coupleof months now, I must admit my excitement falls somewhere between those highs and lows. The lunchbox works exactly exactly as advertised; the problem is, it’s the things they don’t advertise that become the problem.

In my opinion, the Electric Lunbhbox from VASG does everything it claims to do. After placing food inside the metal tray you set the warm time and wait. There’s even a scheduling mode that will allow you to schedule a later time for the unit to turn on. (Imagine sending a child to school with a lunchbox that starts warming his or her lunch half an hour before their scheduled lunch break!) The lunchbox is rechargeable via USB-C. You can literally drive to the nearest park and let your lunchbox heat up your lunch on a picnic table as you enjoy the scenery.

But the lunchbox is not without its faults, some worse than others. The lunchbox’s heating temperature of 360 degrees is not configurable. That temperature is enough to heat up food, eventually, but not actually cook anything like raw meat. The reason I said “eventually” is because it takes around 30 minutes to heat foods stored at room temperature (think cans of soup or ravioli) and a full hour to heat up chilled or refrigerated leftovers.

My biggest problem with the unit is its internal battery, which in my opinion is undersized. It takes 3-4 hours to charge and only lasts for 60 minutes of use which means ostensibly users will ostensibly be charging it every night — and while that’s not necessarily a terrible thing, it rules out a few uses including a way for those who live fulltime in their vehicles to prepare food.

That’s not the say the lunchbox doesn’t have its place. For realtors, construction workers, or anyone else who regularly eats meals on the go, this lunchbox would be great. Those hoping to cook food (instead of just heating it) or use it multiple days in a row without recharging it may be disappointed.

WHAT I LIKED

✅ Easy to use, carry, and clean
✅ Heats food as advertised
✅ Rechargeable battery allows for warm meals on the go

WHAT COULD BE BETTER

📉 Battery needs charging after 60 minutes of use
📉 Meals take 30-60 minutes to warm
📉 Set temperature works for heating but not cooking

SUMMARY AND LINKS

The Electric Lunchbox from VASG does what it advertises, allowing owners to eat warm meals on the go. Most of my disappointment comes from what I wish it could do. For what it does and for those who can use it, I do believe it to be a good deal.
