JUST THE FACTS

These humane/non-lethal mouse traps have an easy-to-set spring-loaded mechanism that will snap the door shut once a mouse has entered it, allowing you to take the trap and release the mouse without killing it. A small compartment at one end holds any bait of your choice.

FULL REVIEW

I hate everything about traditional mouse traps. I hate setting them, I hate emptying them, I hate cleaning them… I literally hate everything about them. The only problem is, I also hate having mice in my garage. These humane/set-and-release mouse traps seemed like a good compromise.

One end of the trap contains a compartment that can be lifted. Inside the compartment, any bait of your choosing can be placed. I’ve had success with lemon candy and a cracker covered in a thin layer of peanut butter. Ironically I had the least amount of success with a slice of cheese. Once the bait has been inserted, simply press the door in until it catches on the small mechanism and place the trap wherever you see mice. The trap is tube-shaped which allows it to easily be placed up against a wall or behind furniture.

Unlike a traditional mouse trap, once this trap is sprung you will now be the proud owner of a live mouse stuck inside a plastic tube. How you dispose of the mouse at that point is your business. I can tell you from personal experience that releasing it on the other side of your backyard isn’t far enough — the one time I did that, the mouse literally beat me back to the garage. Across the street from my backyard is a large field which is where the mice come from and where they go after I catch them. I realize some of them most likely find their way back but I’ve seen too many kid-friendly films featuring animated mice to feel good about snapping their little necks. Call me an old softie.

One thing you must remember to do once you’ve placed the traps is check them on a daily basis. Without food or water, they’ll starve to death in a couple of days which removes the whole “humane” aspect of the trap.
